About the Recipe

This soup is a dish that mom would make for my siblings and I. The only difference is that back in my country we did not always have a blender so my mom would be forced to blend the ingredients by hand. Mushing with her hands and a molcajete. My mom always made it possible for my siblings and I to eat. Even if it was something as simple as tortillas with beans and cheese. This dish even though very popular and common in my country, is very personal to me.

Ingredients

  • 10 corn tortillas
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 3 guajillo chiles
  • 3 arbol chiles
  • 1 teaspoon chicken consommé
  • ¼ onion
  • Black pepper
  • Vegetable oil

Directions

  1. Cut the tortillas into small strips and fry them in a small pan  with vegetable oil.
  2. In a separate pan roast the tomatoes, chiles, onion, and minced garlic.
  3. Once the ingredients have been roasted, place the roasted ingredients in a blender and allow the ingredients to blend thoroughly.
  4. Pour the blended mixture into a pot and add about 3 cups of water.
  5. Mix well and bring to a boil.
  6. Serve hot and garnish with tortilla chips.
