The Walking Classroom | Weld RE-5J Walking Classrooms help students get moving, get outside and get learning | Morgan McKenzie | Reporter-Herald Online

Johnstown and Milliken area students are getting outside for the perfect “brain break.”

A new program at Weld RE-5J schools gives students a break to get outside and exercise while continuing their education.

Health grant funding supported the implementation of the “Walking Classroom” program at Elwell Elementary School, Milliken Elementary School, Pioneer Ridge Elementary and Milliken Middle School.

The program’s approach of “walk, listen and learn” focuses on getting students moving while listening to a 15-minute podcast that aligns with the district’s curriculum — supporting physical, mental and academic health, as well as helping antsy students who may have difficulty focusing in the classroom.
