The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is awarded two 5-year contracts from the CDC

We are pleased to announce that the Alliance for a Healthier Generation was recently awarded two 5-year cooperative agreements from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), under its National Collaboration to Promote Health, Wellness, and Academic Success of School-Age Children (FOA DP16-1601).

The award amount is $700,000 per year for five years for a total of $3.5 million, funding the Alliance’s work for two priority areas: 1) school nutrition environments and 2) healthy eating and physical activity in out-of-school time (OST).

The Alliance’s work will strengthen the CDC’s investments in State Public Health Actions,which funds all 50 states to promote state level support to reduce the risk factors associated with childhood obesity, manage chronic conditions in schools, and promote the well-being and healthy development of all children and youth.   

Effective June 1, 2016, the Alliance is working directly with the CDC to support:

• Training/professional development
• Partnerships/collaborations
• Resource development with state health/education agencies, school districts and school-based out-of-school time sites

After a decade of progress in combatting childhood obesity, this award is critical to the Alliance’s new strategic direction of ensuring the environments that surround young people provide and promote good health.
