Healthier Generation & Kohl’s Help Families Stay Active Amid New Normal
New “Moving More at Home” campaign offers families simple ways to improve their well-being in a world that looks vastly different than before
(May 11, 2020) - Today, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation (Healthier Generation) and Kohl’s released “Moving More at Home,” a collection of new tools and resources designed to help families integrate quick, home-based physical activity breaks into their daily routines. Physical activity is proven to ease stress and anxiety, which many families are experiencing at a magnified scale as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Moving More at Home” ensures families have the tools they need to stay active, reduce stress and anxiety, and foster connectedness while coping with the ever-changing reality of the current time.
“Moving More at Home” resources are available at no cost at HealthierGeneration.org/MovingMoreAtHome and include exercise guides, customizable family activity toolkits, and virtual trainings to help educators connect with families and encourage healthier habits. All resources are available in both English and Spanish.
“‘Moving More at Home’ provides simple tips and tools to help families pause and find a sense of normalcy during a time when many are managing the real effects of anxiety, stress, isolation and much more,” said Kathy Higgins, chief executive officer at the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. “With research showing that physical activity boosts the immune system, diminishes stress, improves sleep, and positively impacts overall well-being, ‘Moving More at Home’ meets children and families right where they are and helps them live healthier lives.”
“Moving More at Home” is a part of the “Kohl’s Healthy at Home” family wellness initiative that encourages families to prioritize a healthy lifestyle in their homes and wherever their children live, learn and play; and follows on the heels of the previous campaign, “Eating Healthy at Home,” that helped families eat healthier on any budget.
New and updated resources for nutrition, physical activity and social-emotional health are scheduled to be announced in late 2020 and throughout 2021 on kohlshealthyathome.org. To learn more and access “Moving More at Home” resources, visit HealthierGeneration.org/MovingMoreAtHome.
