2018 National Healthy Schools Award Applications Open
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service recently announced that it will no longer be accepting applications for its HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC), effective July 1, 2018.
For several years, Healthier Generation and the USDA aligned its award programs, so that schools could receive dual national recognition. USDA’s HUSSC: SL-certified schools automatically qualified for Healthier Generation’s National Healthy Schools Bronze Award in the following categories:
- School Nutrition Services
- Smart Snacks in School
- Health/Nutrition Education
USDA will honor its final set of awardees by December 31; applications are due July 1.
Healthier Generation will continue to offer schools enrolled in its Healthy Schools Program the opportunity to apply for the annual National Healthy Schools Award. Applications are now open until April 6, 2018.
Schools that historically have applied for the HUSSC award, as well as schools that would like to earn national distinctions for their health and wellness achievements, are encouraged to apply for Healthier Generation’s National Healthy Schools Award.
