There is limited availability from vendors of appropriate beverages and portion sizes that meet Alliance Guidelines.  What should I do?

Per this agreement, there has been a proactive response by the beverage companies to provide new package sizes and products that meet the Guidelines.  Not all of the new product sizes are ready yet, but they should be available soon. There is a product list for your use that lists qualifying beverages. You have a few options to consider during this interim time period:

  • Contract for only qualifying and available beverages – additional qualifying drinks will be added as they become available.
  • Contract for qualifying beverages and transition products (ie, juices that are in the correct portion size but have not yet been fortified to meet the complete nutrition requirements). Have the vendor replace transition products automatically as qualifying beverages become available.  It is important to note that for the 2007-2008 school year, the Healthy Schools Program will not recognize schools selling transition products.  Schools seeking recognition will need to sell only qualifying products.

Innovation in beverages will be on-going. You always have the option to add new products that comply with the Guidelines to the choices offered in your schools as they become available. Your beverage supplier will let you know about these choices. We will keep the product catalogs on this site updated for your use, so be sure to check back often.
